Obituary for Carole Elizabeth Mainville (Huestis)

MAINVILLE—May 4th, 2021, at Ottawa General Hospital, Carole Elizabeth Mainville, age 78 years. Born at Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1943, she is the youngest child of the late Percy Lee Huestis and Edna Elizabeth Cyr. Although her family moved to Ontario in the late 1940s, Carole was proud of her Maritime roots and her mixed Loyalist and Acadian heritage. She married the late Claude Mainville in 1959 and they spent twenty-five years together before his premature passing in 1985. He was the love of her life, a fact that was not lost upon the many lives they touched as founding members of Cornwall Marriage Encounter. She is survived by four devoted children, Curtis (Theresa) of Wellington, Corey (Angela) of Utterson, Colette (David Francis) and Christine (Christian Ouimet) of Ottawa. Nana is fondly remembered by nine grandchildren, Jessica, Olivia, Bella, Sam, Emma, Nicholas, Sara, Ève, and Annik. Carole is the last of her generation, having endured the passing of one sister, Betty Vieulleux, and three brothers, Richard, William (“Billy”), and Ralph, all of whom died well ahead of their time. She leaves over forty nieces and nephews to mourn her loss. She was a long-time employee of the Hotel Dieu Hospital and community volunteer with the Children’s Treatment Centre. Carole was resilient, compassionate, dignified, and demonstrated a tremendous capacity to love. She will be sorely missed. Special thanks are extended to her devoted friend and neighbour, Mary Lalonde, without whom these last few years would have been unbearable. A private family visitation will be held at Wilson’s Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall per COVID protocols; mass of Christian burial and celebration of life to follow at a later date. Donations to the Children’s Treatment Centre (www.childrenstreatmentcentre.ca) in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com
