It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Duncan Fulford at Cornwall Community Hospital on Sunday January 1, 2023 at the age of 90. Duncan was the beloved husband and best friend of Barbara (née Splaine) for 63 years. He was the proud father of daughter Kim Racine (John Kroon) of Cornwall and son Steven (Lisa) of Toronto. He was the adored Grandpa of Aimée Racine (Mackenzie) of Ottawa, Michelle Racine (Dan) of Ottawa, Elle Fulford (Jayke) of Vancouver, and Beck Fulford of Toronto.
He was predeceased by his parents Earle and Jeannette (Hyde) Fulford and siblings Stella, Audrey, Douglas, Donald, John and Elaine. He is also survived by his sister Betty Smith (Frank), sister-in-law Josephine Campbell (Jack), brother-in-law Glenn Splaine (Diane), sister-in-law Eva Sparling and sister-in-law Lorna Sparling.
Duncan was born and raised in Stark’s Corners, Quebec. He started his career with Ontario Hydro in 1951, moving to Cornwall in 1958 with the construction of the Robert H Saunders Generating Station. He was a member of The Cornwall Golf and Country Club and the Director of Billeting for the Cornwall Royals.
Duncan and Barbara had a love for travel. They travelled all across Canada seeing every single province and Yukon territory and spent the last 14 of their travel years in Panama City, Florida, California and Arizona.
He will be deeply missed by life long friends Marj and Alex Fleming who were traveling companions over the years and their Thursday night dinner dates in recent years.
When health challenges would no longer allow him to travel, he spent many afternoons playing bridge and cribbage. He will be missed at the card table.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the following medical professionals that cared for Duncan in recent years, Dr Ashley Cook, Dr Melissa Toupin, Dr Sharda and Dr Yitemben. They would also like to thank all the staff that supported him at the Cornwall Community Hospital and St Joseph Continuing Care Centre providing great care, compassion and respect to him these past 2 months.
As per his wishes there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will take place in the spring. Cremation has taken place
Arrangements entrusted to Wilson Funeral home.
As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in his memory to the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation.
