Obituary for Irène Labelle (Longtin)

March 9, 1929 - October 27, 2022
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Irène Solange (Longtin) Labelle on October 27, 2022. Mom leaves her family to follow their dreams, live life to the fullest, and to laugh often. She will now rejoin the love of her life Lucien, who pre-deceased her in 2002. She and her husband raised all of her six children in Cornwall, where some then branched off afar to live their lives. Her sons Robert (Linda), Richard (Claude Audette, both deceased), André (Christine) and Rev. Jacques (Dwayne Carte) as well as her daughters Nicole (Lester Fister, deceased) and Denise (Daniel Gélinas).

Irène was born to Joseph and Imelda Longtin on March 9, 1929 in Embrun and lovingly raised in Cornwall with her siblings Fernand (Lucille), Annette (Steve Desrosier), Jeanne, Rita (Maurice Seguin), Laurent (Louisette), Réné (Estelle), Rodolphe, Fernande (Eugène Cloutier), Gilberte (Jean Richer). She loved life and all that it offered, although cut short by the memory disorder that stole the last 20 years of her life, she loved to sew, knit, quilt, volunteer and always ready to offer gifts to the less fortunate.

She will be remembered fondly by a whole generation of families from Cornwall, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, sister in laws Pauline (Melvin) William and Yvette (Clifford) Blue and brother-in Laws, Marcel (Anne) Labelle and Maurice (Marie (both deceased)).

Known as Grand-maman to her grandchildren Rachel, Guillaume and Genevieve, Isabelle and Catherine, Danielle, Becky, Martin and Stephanie, and her many great-grandchildren.

Grief is just love and we've been preparing for this moment, although it is always too soon and very painful to close a chapter of our individual lives. One day we will find joy in remembering all that she was to so many people. Her memory is a blessing.
Irène always thought of others before herself and therefore her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, that you give donations to a charity of your choice, that we each consider completing a random act of kindness in her honour.
A very special recognition to the Staff at Sandfield Place who have been phenomenal in providing care to Mom throughout her 14 years as a resident but more particular, the incredible care and love they extended to Mom in her last living days. We will always be grateful for your compassion.
As a devout catholic, and in keeping with Mom’s wish, Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thérèse de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church on Monday, October 31st, 2022, followed by committal at St. Andrew’s West Parish Cemetery. Family and Friends may pay their respect at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Boulerice Center 218 Montreal Road, Cornwall K6H 1B4 on Sunday October 30th from 2 pm to 4 pm & 7 pm to 9 pm.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson’s Funeral Home in Cornwall. www.wilsonfuneralhome.com
