Obituary for James "Sandy" MacGregor

MACGREGOR, James (Sandy) –It is with great sadness the MacGregor family announces the death of James Sandfield (Sandy) MacGregor on November 2, 2020, at the age of 72. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Sandy is survived by his wife Dianne (nee Arsenault); son Jamie of Miramichi, NB; daughter Katie (Dr. David Barry) of New Maryland, NB; granddaughters Alexandra and Margot Barry; sisters Kathleen Oliver (David) of Toronto, ON; Marjorie Lygas (Mike Watkin) of Houston, TX; Miriam Wheeler (late Terry) of St. Andrews West, ON; Lynda Leyland (late Ernie) of Ajax, ON; Alyson Belmore (Philip) of Orleans, ON; and many nieces and nephews.
Born in St. Andrews West, ON, Sandy is predeceased by his parents James and Helen (nee Macdonell) MacGregor and brother Charles MacGregor.
Sandy moved to the New Brunswick in the mid-1970s. He settled in Miracmichi and there he opened the Jean Loft in successive locations. He retired from a more recent store, Denim Warehouse.

Sandy’s passions were his businesses, playing poker and golf. He loved a good hockey or baseball game and kept up to date with news in the sporting world. In very recent years however, it was the arrival of two granddaughters that brought him true joy.
Sandy was a gentleman. He was a patient, humble, kind and loving man with a quick wit. And although reserved, he was a conversationalist and had great insight on a variety of subjects. Sandy always had an appreciation for a good story and honest discussion.
While Sandy made Miramichi his home and was a proud member of the community, he never forgot his Ontario roots. When hometown family and friends visited, Sandy loved to show them east-coast hospitality.
Sandy will forever be remembered for his love of life, caring heart, love of family and friends and endearing sense of humour.

I’ll be seeing you, in all the old familiar places, that this heart of mine embraces all day through. ~ Irving Kahal
Visitation will not take place due to pandemic restrictions. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date.
If one so desires, expressions of sympathy may be made in Sandy’s memory to Hospice Miramichi Inc.: www.hospicemiramichi.com
The family extends heart-felt thanks to Dr. Ninian Slorach, Dr. Jill Watts and the Miramichi Oncology Clinic, visiting staff from the extra-mural program and extended family and friends for their wonderful support, care and kindness.
