Obituary for Kevin Laplante

It is with great sadness that the family of Kevin Laplante announce his passing on Monday, July 18th, 2022 with his loved ones by his side.
Kevin was born to Don and Margaret Laplante of Grants Corner’s Ontario, on December 17th, 1958. He grew up on Street Road, surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins where he discovered his two great passions in life; business and horses.
Kevin was destined to be an entrepreneur. He spent his childhood years running as fast as his little legs allowed between his father’s welding business, to his grandfather’s farm equipment business, to his uncle’s farm. As a young boy he was always looking for ways to combine his passion for animals and business while recruiting his siblings to help in his latest ventures. While Kevin played his share of sports, he was much happier raising calves and chickens or trapping. By the age of 20, Kevin had moved to Airdrie, Alberta where he started his own welding business KWL Welding. In 1983 Kevin moved back to Ontario, where he established Laplante Welding of Cornwall Inc. As President and CEO, Kevin expanded the business, which for many years, was a leading company in the Structural and Miscellaneous Steel industry in Eastern Ontario. Many of our family’s fondest memories revolved around Kevin in some way as he generously and continually opened his home and cottage to family and friends. He had a way of making our vacations and holidays extra special with horse drawn sleigh rides and cottage gatherings. Kevin devoted his life to his business and family, and believed in the mantra of living life to the fullest. He embraced every challenge and opportunity with courage and enthusiasm and spent his time doing things that brought him joy.
Kevin will be lovingly and forever remembered by his 3 children Dorothy Laplante (Martin Rose) Williamstown, Charlie Laplante (Britney) Williamstown, Andrew Laplante (Megan Smith) Kingston. He will be deeply missed by his 5 grandchildren Brayden, Charlotte, Jacob, Hudson, and Evelyn, his mother Margaret Laplante (MacDonald) Long Sault, his 5 siblings Donna McBean (Earl) Long Sault, Cathy Wasson (Terry) Ennismore, Brenda Courtney (Don) Orangeville, Brent Laplante (Natalie) Summerstown, and Ian Laplante (Shannon) Williamstown, and Loving Friend Kelley Ferguson of Maxville as well as 11 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Don Laplante (1932 – 2021).
A private service will be held for Kevin at Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt St., Cornwall (613-938-3888) in Cornwall on Saturday July 23rd for immediate family only.
An informal drop by Celebration of Life is being held on Friday July 29th 2022, from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Upper Scotch farm 18924 County Road 22, Maxville ON K0C 1T0.
